ASSIGNMENT
3: INITIAL DESIGNS
Sliderz
(By Carrie Burgener)
This design
focuses on social, temporal and quantity pieces of metadata. Location
becomes a secondary piece of metadata. All pictures are secondarily
threaded based on location and then time.
When we communicate with our users through the PhotoCat
interface, we will call these categories “Time,” “Place,"
and “People." This design propose is based on visual
timeline interfaces found in desktop applications like Nokia LifeBlog
and Photoshop Album. The timeline in both cases is used to express
time and quantity. Although both of the aforementioned applications
are not mentioned in the comparative analysis they do share the
attribute that the primary organizational element for pictures is
time. With one additional visual element the timeline could represent
time, quantity of photos, and people who were around that have known
bluetooth devices (i.e., friends! :o)).

Primary View
The main organizational framework would be a timeline that a user
could scroll through. Icons in the timeline would indicate the number
of friends who were present when the photo was taken. The width
of the section displays the quantity of photos for each of the days.
Check boxes at the top of the screen allow the user to turn off
data fields they do not find useful.
Clicking on a picture would set it to be selected
(with the white border around it) and would allow for multiple tags
(not sure where tagging feature would go yet), sharing, blogging
and printing.
Single Picture
View
The single picture view will take the user to window with the image,
allowing the user to edit the caption of the picture, identify unknown
bluetooth devices as friends, add individuals that do not have bluetooth.
It will also allow for correction of date/time and location information.
