Revised Storyboards
The storyboards are updated to reflect the final design flow. The tasks from the user scenarios were aggreated into 5 separate task sets for purposes of user testing:
Task Set 1.
- Start from the gene list.
- View the annotation history for the first gene on the list.
- Modify the existing annotation for that gene with data from another gene that's a homolog:
- GO function;
- EC number;
- Name.
- Submit your annotation.
The user performs a gene search and gets a set of results as a gene list. The first gene on the list is his gene of interest.
He looks at the Gene Details and examines the functional asignment for the gene. He is pretty convinced that the functional assignment is not correct. He wants to see the history of the annotation.
From the history he learns that this gene was initially annotated automatically.
He returns to Gene Details and wants to change the current functional assignment.
The login screen comes up. He types in his user name and password.
If you do not have a user account, please use |
|
He identifies one homolog from COG and two from Pfam that he wants to do a comparison with, selects them, and brings up the Compare and Transfer Annotations page.
He uses the compare and transfer tool, selects the fields
he wants to transfer from a homolog, and clicks on the 'Transfer to Annotation'
button, transferring
|
|
The Preview page comes up. He reviews his data one more time and clicks 'Submit'.
The updated Gene Details page comes up. |
Task Set 2.
- Start from the gene list.
- Express your opposition to this annotation (point).
The user performs a gene search and gets a set of results as a gene list. The first gene on the list is his gene of interest.
The user disagrees with the existing annotation enough to share his opinion with others but he does not have enough interest to go in and modify it. He wants to express his opposition. He clicks on the "I Disagree" radio button and types in his comment.
A discussion confirmation page comes up once he submits his comment. |
Task Set 3.
- Start from the Gene Cart.
- Change an annotation by adding a COG group.
- Add this gene to your list of watched annotations.
The user starts from the Gene Cart. He wants to add a COG group to the first gene on his list.
He clicks through to the Update Annotation page and proceeds to "Skip to Direct Entry".
On the direct-entry page he adds the COG Group manually and reviews the description. Before clicking on 'Submit,' he checks the 'Add to My Watched Annotations' checkbox.
The 'Preview' page comes up. He reviews his data one more time and clicks 'Submit'. |
Task Set 4.
- Start from the Gene Cart.
- Comment on annotations for multiple genes.
The user starts from the Gene Cart. He wants to make a comment about all the genes in his cart, so he selects them all and clicks 'Discuss Selected.'
The 'Discuss Selected Genes' page comes up. He enters his comment and clicks 'Submit.'
His comment is submitted to the latest version of the annotations for all the genes in the batch. |
Task Set 5.
- View genes you've annotated.
Starting anywhere on the site, the user wants to see the list of the genes he has annotated. He clicks on 'My IMG' and then the 'Genes I've Annotated' tab.
The 'Genes I've Annotated' page comes up with a table of the genes that he has annotated in the past. |
