Initial Design 1: A Few Extras

A few pages that would be needed to make the rest of the design work fell outside the scope of our scenarios.

Becoming a Fellow

Bill and Martha Jane are already fellows, but there must be a way for users to become fellows. Here's how it works. Click a "Become a fellow" link on a page with annotation links, like the Gene Details page.

The annotation area of the page has a link to Become a fellow if you're logged in as a member.

The search form generates a list of users as clickable links. When you click on one, you see the request page.

The fellow you chose receives an email through the system (so as not to allow non-fellows to get at email addresses). The message the fellow receives will have two links, one of which indicates to the system that he or she has consented to making you a fellow and the other of which indicates that he or she declined. The fellow will see a "thank you" page letting them know that the system will notify the member of their decision. The member receives an email letting him or her know the fellow's decision.

Password Handling

If a user needs to change his password, he follows the "Forgot your password? " link, which allows him to recover a password simply by entering his username.

If his email address changes, he can update it in the Geneboree system with the "Changed your email?" link.

Watched Annotations

Another feature of the system allows users to track specific annotations that they are interested in, whether they are their own or someone else's. These are called Watched Annotations. When you enter an annotation, you can choose to put it on your watch list with a checkbox in the lower right.

You can also add a watched annotation from the Collaborative Annotation page.

To access your watched annotations, you click on "Watched Annotations" in the MyIMG tab.

The watched annotations page looks something like this:

The organism name links to the IMG page for that organism. The Gene Object ID links to the Gene Details page for the gene whose annotations you're watching. The last annotator's name is an email link if you are logged on as a fellow. The version number is a link to the latest version of the annotation.
