Thoughtless Acts

Key elements of our TUI project are table and chair. So here are the thoughtless acts that I came up with for chair and table
 
Table and chairs both are complementary to each other. Chairs are generally aligned to tables so we can sit and work. Of course there are situations where chairs alone exist, like in a large student classrooms and there we thoughtlessly use our laps table. 
 

1) People at the coffee shop staring the window every few minutes. This can be whether due to either taking time away from looking at the computer monitor or if they notice some movement that has no bearing on their space. They are not people watching per say, just a natural reflex after staring at the monitor for too long. It's a way to engage in the wider world and mentally decompress.

I wanted to observe people who are working out. I took these pictures at the RSF.
People tend to always carry a towel and often wipe their face with it while working out.
Another act that I observed is sipping water inbetween workouts.

Something that's really interesting to me is that kids are unintentitonally pensive, thoughtful and curious.  They don't need much in front of them to really grasp on to very simple things. They look closely and observe.  Here's a picture of a child with a map on her lap.  While she doesn't really know EXACTLY what she is looking at, she's focused, intent and observant. 

What is happening:

The image shows an individual taking an afternoon nap. This thoughtless act shows the interaction of the person with the bed, pillows, and personal item (clothes, cellphone, etc).  I noticed that he placed a pillow between his legs and appears to be hugging his head pillow. I also noted that the individual has their hoodie places on their head. In addition, his cellphone is on the bed.

1) what is happening in the scene:

The first picture depicts a congregation of notes to package deliverers at the entry of an apartment complex. Once a few were up, others decided to add their own to the same section of the window. Deliverers also post slips in the same area. This shows how people tend to mimic others and take advantage of places that get a lot of traffic like entryways, hallways, etc. For our project we would like to place our visualization of physical activity data/trends in a common area like this so people will take notice of it frequently and check their progress.

Scene: The child is enjoying eating sweet treats with a small spoon from a small paper cup, but also eating from the bottom of an wafer ice cream cone. The bottom of the ice cream cone is about the same size of the small cup. With the up close picture, one can see that the child has scooped additional contents red from the paper cup into the ice cream cup. Since the two objects around the same size, the child is using the edible ice cream cone like the paper cup.

Scene Description
In this thoughtless act, we see an individual in black holding a cell phone. He is focusing all his attention on it while crossing the street, but uses the man in front of him as a peripheral guide. Looking out the side of his eye, he can tell when he starts and stops, allowing him to keep texting while safely crossing the street.
