Sensing Part 1: Potentiometers

As of this lab, we are beginning to use sensors as input devices. We add potentiometers as a means of simple interaction with the Arduino. We continue to build off the circuit of previous weeks, and in this case, continue to use three LEDs whose values are set by PWM pins on the Arduino, but add the capability to provide input through three potentiometers, connected to analog pins on the Arduino Uno.

In this lab, we used the variable resistance of potentiometers ("pots") to explore analog input and control the intensity and blinking of LEDs.
 
We first prepared our potentiometers and learned how to solder 3 wires to each pot (Black- Ground, Yellow- Analog, Red- 5V).

In this lab we learned about soldering and potentiometers. We used soldering irons to solder wires onto potentiometers and then added the pots to our 3 LED circuit from lab 2. Pots are variable resistors that allow us to control voltage by turning their knobs. The Arduino has analog to digital converter inputs to detect the voltage changes.

For this lab, I used 2 Potentiometers (Pots) to control the operation of 3 LEDs. One of the Pots was connected through the Arduino’s analog-in port (A0) to control the brightness of all 3 LEDs simultaneously. Another Pot was connected to a different analog-in port (A1) to control the blinking rate.

The goal of this lab was to explore analog input by learning to program the Arduino Uno to use potentiometers to control LEDs. In Part 1 of the lab assignment, wires were soldered to the correct locations on the potentiometer.
 
In Part 2, the circuit from the previous lab exercise was modified to include a potentiometer which then controlled either the brightness or the blinking rate of the LED. The sample code provided in the lab assignment was used.

Used potentiometers to alter the effects on LEDs.  I based this lab on the previous lab where we were working with the three LEDs and their varrying brightness.  The potentiometers allow control over the brightness or speed of blinking  This lab also introduced me to soldering.  By soldering wires to the pots, we have a nice connection that makes the potentiometers sensitive.  In this lab, I added two pots to the setup in order to acheive brightness control over the three LED's.

This third lab focused on external manipulation of LEDs.
 
My hardware consisted of 3 LEDs (colors: red, green and blue) and 2 potentiometers.  The code was set up so that when one of the potentiometers was swiveled, the brightness of the LEDs would be affected, and when the other potentiometer was swiveled the frequency of the LEDs blinking would be altered.

In this assignment, I used 2 potentiometers to control the RGB LED lights. The first potentiometer would determine which colors to turn on while the second potentiometer would determine the brightness of the selected color(s). For example, for low range of the Pot2 (below 340), only the red LED would be ON at Pot1 value of brightness; for mid range of Pot2 (between 340 and 680), red and green would be ON, red and green LEDs would be ON at Pot1 value of brightness and for high range of Pot2 (above 680), all the 3 LEDs would be ON at Pot1 value of brightness.
