I was going for a crawling bloody hand effect, but didn't have time to make it to the Halloween superstore. A gardening glove and some cotton with paint on it worked okay, though. The motion is sort of "propellor-style," and the movement is sort of diagonal - I experimented a lot with placement of the motor and shape of the pipecleaners.

toy car taped to bottom, for balance and a little ease of motion
And here's the bottom, it's hard to tell what's going on, but the pipe cleaners are the "blades" of the propellor:
