Servo Motor: Actuation Assignment 2

Lab7 - Walking Nemo

Submitted by jooddang on Tue, 03/19/2013 - 21:55

Description

For this assignment, I collaborated with Euiyoung to create the Walking Nemo, which walks with two legs powered by two servo motor. When Euiyoung tries to hook up Nemo, he flees away. That a fish walks with two legs is the main point you would enjoy with this video.

Components

1- Arduino Uno board

2- servo motor

1- FSR

1- 10k ohm resistor

1- fish toy

Lab 7: Servo Motor

Submitted by alexis.taylor on Tue, 03/19/2013 - 21:22

Description

I had difficulty coming up with something clever for this lab. I initially had a wire paperclip bent into an angled leg with a small foot at the end which worked quite well, until it stopped working and I could not get it to work again. I then used a small spatula that I use to mix paint because it reminded me of a boat oar. For the motor's base, I used two spools of thread.

Lab 7: Orange Crawler

Submitted by shaohan on Tue, 03/19/2013 - 20:44

Description:

I used an orange to push(?) the "object (motor + a paper roll + a small plastic bottle + a hair rubber band) and make it crawl. I first tried to use a plastic board by drilling two holes on it then connect it to the motor, but later realized that the paper was too light-weighted that the "object" just stayed at the same place and didn't move at all. I then tried to find something which is heavier and easy to drill and found that orange might be a good candidate for this. It works!

Rocking Crawler

Description

In this lab, a crawler that rocks back and forth to move was created. First, a base was made out of Legos to make a foundation that the servo motor could be mounted onto. Once the servo motor was attached to the base, a beam of wood attached to the servo motor to create an arm. At the end of the arm, metal brackets were used to create a weight on one side, and rubber bands were wrapped around where the metal brackets touch the ground in order to provide friction and grip.

Crawler?

Submitted by derek on Tue, 03/19/2013 - 20:17

After several failures I settled with a four legged design that works reasonably well. He crawls forward but mostly does what he wants.

Materials

  • Popsicle sticks!
  • rubber bands
  • wooden dowels (1/4 diameter)
  • copper wire
  • insulated wire
  • 10k potentiometer
  • servo motor
  • Arduino Uno
  • breadboard

Ghost shaker

Submitted by sebarness on Tue, 03/19/2013 - 20:11

Description: In this assignment I used a wooden stick and an earplug attached to the servo motor. I then covered it with a ghost doll I made.  The ghost moves forward very slowly, he actually dances better than walks.

Materials:

-arduino

-breadboard

-servo motor

-potentiometer

-wires

Pushy Crawler

Submitted by syh on Tue, 03/19/2013 - 20:04

Description: This is a very weird looking creature that pushes itself around using a single flat "foot." Its parts are held together by yarn (for stability) and pipe cleaners (to attach to the servo motor). The servo motor is held in place by yarn, which is attached to the folded parts of one piece of cardboard, which has pipe cleaner pieces on the bottom to help it slide. The other piece, attached with pink pipe cleaner, have elastics wrapped around them to provide grip. Using the basic Arduino potentiometer code, the crawler can propel itself forward with small motions.

Bottle crawler

Submitted by soren svejstrup on Tue, 03/19/2013 - 19:45

Description

I stuck the Arduino and the breadboard into a bottle, to conceal the crawler and make it more durable. I think that the supporting leg, will help the crawler to drag itself more smoothly.

However, I was not able to test it. My Mac kept shutting of the USB-port (see attached photo), so I did not want to risk burning of my computer.
