A.
Simple adding, saving and sorting bookmarks and folders |
1.
Add this page to your bookmark. |
- look
for icons on Webmarking not in browsers
- not
obvious how to add the currently browsing page to bookmarks
- want
to click and drag
- cannot
find how to add the current web page to bookmark.
- look
for an icon for adding a bookmark
|
2.
Create a new folder to store several newspaper web sites. Name the
folder "News". |
- find
button immediately
- what
does the "Description" (one of the fields in "New Folder" dialog)
mean? should have short explanation in the dialog.
or help?
- "Date"
field is not necessary because it is not going to be edited and
not important.
- when
"New Folder" window is open, cursor should be on "Name" field
so that the user can type in the name without using mouse or tab
key to move focus to the field
|
3.
Put related bookmarks to the "News" folder. |
- if
a bookmark is moved to a folder, want to see a sub tree from the
folder to confirm that the bookmark is surely moved to the
folder
|
4.
Open a history folder for yesterday. |
- click
on the title bar that says "History" not the folder for yesterday's
history
- go
to browser to open history file
|
5.
Find The Financial Times site in the folder. |
- any
history file should not be deleted even after one is moved to
bookmark
|
6.
Move the site to the "Newspaper" folder. |
- not
obvious if the file is successfully moved to a directory or not.
how about having a small counter for each folder and increase
the number as bookmark is added to the folder?
- having
a counter to show the number of files in a folder is useless.
the number does not matter.
|
B.
Browsing with History Map view |
1.
Go to the "Map" view. |
- look
at the tool bar first not the tabs. tabs are not visible
enough.
|
2.
Find and select The New York Times home page as the root document
in the "Map" view. |
- how
the map is displayed if a site is visited not by a link from another
site?
- identify
the current root by color/shade
|
3.
Find the second page of one of the articles you read. |
- single
click the page - what happens? not intuitive what happens if
an icon is single clicked or double clicked. want to have
"Open Page" button and menu not only the double clicking.
- need
more info about each page (title, summary etc.) how about
a message popping up when mouse is positioned over an icon?
- what
kind of date/time is this? - when I visited the page? when the
page is created?
- history
map is not intuitive. cannot understand what the lines
connecting pages mean. cannot see the sequence of the
navigation.
- more
specific info on each page should be attached to each icon.
|
C.
Power search history records in calendar view |
1.
Go to the "Calendar" view. |
- how
can I move to month view to week view, week view to day view?
- even
in month view, want to see some descriptive info about the
page I visited. number of sites I visited does not matter.
show the first couple of sites I visited on a day and have "More.."
button to display other sites visited.
|
2.
Open a search window to start a search on all pages from The New York
Times. |
- want
to choose view in the search dialog box.
- default
values should be displayed for search cliteria (e.g. last
visited: "anytime").
- "Last
Visited" field of the search window should have choices in fairly
broad range - yesterday, 2-3 days ago, a week ago, two weeks ago
- it's likely that I don't remember exactly when I visited a particular
site.
- title
of the dialog box ("Search") look like a button.
|
3.
Then go to last week (Feb 28 - Mar 6) and determine which day (not
Fri and not Wed) it was when you visited The New York Times. |
- want
to see the name or other description of the page
- want
to navigate the calendar view with navigation button "<<
previous" and "next >>" . also want to have a pull
down menu to jump to a particular date, week or month.
|
others |
- difference
between sigle click and double click is not obvious
- this
calendar feature is amazingly cool!
- spaces
for Saturday and Sunday in a calendar should not be smaller than
weekdays. I spend more time on the net in weekend.
- how
can I switch between different views?
|
Overall |
|
- want
to sort history files (in Map view) other criteria than date/time.
- tabs
to change views - not intuitive. using tabs to show
the same content in different view is not conventional.
Excel uses tabs for worksheets - each worksheet contains different
data. should use small icons as in PowerPoint or Word (lower
left corner of the screen)
- this
application should be integrated with web browsers (i.e. having
a browser window within the interface.)- if not, I'm not going
to use it.
- want
to see the title (what is show in what view) in the right
frame.
- check
out the latest version of internet explorer (v.5)
- icons
and buttons that are different from web browsers confuse me.
better to use the same representations and menu items as conventional
web browsers.
- cannot
see title bars, "Bookmarks" and "History" (problem with the paper
prototype - fixed)
