TEST ONE
Motorcycle, drives once a week. commute on bicycle road trip or visit to SF, groceries. 31 M, environmental scientist.

Task 1. types from/to address, then presses return. This takes him to “live traffic’

He thinks not obvious how to get a prediction for the morning.

Looking around to see what things he can click on. Clicks on “Change trip” link. back to front page

now he scrolls down and sees “forecast …”

selects time under forecast-of-future-traffic.

now makes him wonder… if I click on “I’m flexible”, will it show me the best time to go? Should default to the best route. Idea: “Show me the best time!” link.

On to Task 2.
Signs in, looks at his personalized page. Again forgets to click the raio button.

***layout needs to be changed on this page! ***
***map too big, map height should be cut… so doesn’t have to scroll.

Feedback.
-doesn’t like the scrolling.
-didn’t jump out that this says “This is the best time for…” or “our suggested route for your time window.”
-thinks it’s cool to see the average traffic load for a weekday.

TEST TWO
F 24, high school science teacher, drives 20 mins to work, regularly drives weekends to SF or to camp.

Task 1.
Signs in….
Goes to personalized front page. Looks at the map for a few seconds, looks at color legend. Fastest route…

says I want to click on the route and have you tell me the traffic patterns there. I want to see traffic for the other routes!!! I’d believe the fastest route better if

If I had this map, I would take 880 and go the other way to avoid the red places. I want to be able to see & compare. ***not apparent/provable to her that this is the fastest route. ***

***let’s put speeds for all the alternate routes***

she only wants to see speeds for the alternate routes.

Task 2.
Also doesn’t see/press the “forecast future traffic” radio button. Just tries to enter her time and then … goes to slider page. Slides the time around and chooses the optimal time for leaving.

Feedback.
Nice that it’s really familiar cus it looks like trip planning systems.
Looks like transit info.

TEST THREE
Task 1.
Takes a look at it first of all. Doesn’t like to sign into things if he doesn’t have to. Puts in his address ‘cause he actually does commute in. usually sees city, state, zip parsed out into 3 separate boxes. Enters address and presses go. Goes to Live traffic. Sees ‘top routes right now’. ***NOTE: I think this should change… top routes should be “fastest routes”… **** looks at directions. Interested in whether these are different routes (the “alternative routes”) .

Forecasts traffic for a Wednesday. says I didn’t know these color legends were here…

Sees slider, wants to drag. Looks at different days ***let’s fix the highlighting on days when you click a different day***

Zoom in. wants to recognize the streets in general. This isn’t so much direxions as traffic flow.

Task 2.
***highlighting looks weird on the “Saved Trips” for the personalized front page.***
***Time and date should automatically go to the live date on the personalized front.***
other trips are interesting, but why would I take them if the duration is longer? Or if I wanted to pick somebody up.

Interesting to compare transit times.

I want a slider there, even with real-time, so I can check the next hr, to see if it typically lets up by an hour for now.

Feedback.
No feedback. Looks pretty good.
