Project Vocabulary

Administrator: Updates the site to reflect current class textbook lists. S/he has the option to exercise benevolent censorship when necessary.

BESS: Book Exchange for Sims Students; also known as "the system."

Browse: Utilize the navigation structure, exclusive of search, to find an item.

Browser: A person who wants to see what is available on the site. S/he may not have a specific intention to buy.

Buy: Find a book on the site, contact the seller, and arrange an offline exhange of goods.

Buyer: A person who wishes to buy a specific used textbook.

Click: Single press on the mouse button, usually on a hyperlink or form button.

Contact: When a buyer "contacts" a seller, information is passed between the two parties so that they can then arrange to meet and conduct a transaction.

Find: Locate an item without specifying a particular method. Possible methods include navigation tabs and drill-down clicks. Compare with more specific term, Search.

Recommended Book List: A list of books that a professor recommends students to read for a class.

Required Book List: A list of books that a professor requires students to buy for a particular course.

Search: Use a search engine to find an item.

Select: Choose an item from a finite list of options, such as a pull-down menu or GUI list box.

Sell: Post a book on the site, wait to be contacted by a buyer, and arrange an offline exchange of goods.

Seller: A person who wishes to sell a used textbook.
