TASK MATRIX

The tasks described below are those that each persona would find necessary when confronted with the need to find a book for a number of reasons. Since in most cases this is considered entertainment, and none of the goals are required, none of the tasks are "necessary". However, each task is required in order to reach the goal. Similarly, since this is primarily entertainment, frequency of use is difficult to measure.

AYISHA
PRACTICAL GOAL: Find books for fun
PERSONAL GOAL: Not feel stupid when using the computer
TASKS:

1.      Needs a book to read à Determine whether she has a specific book in mind à (If not) Find a book to read
2.      Go to library (or bookstore)
BROWSE
a.       Browse all fiction OR Browse by known author OR Browse by biographical subject
b.      Assess “qualities” of books *
c.       Choose book
d.      Get book
ASK
a.       Ask parent/teacher/librarian for recommendations
b.      Identify previously read and enjoyed books
c.       Identify topics of interest
d.      Write down recommendations (if enough)
e.       Find recommended books
f.        Assess “qualities” of books

DANNY
PRACTICAL GOALS: Find books to satisfy school requirements as quickly as possible PERSONAL GOALS: Not feel stupid; not let other people know about his troubles with reading
TASKS:
1. Needs a book for school assignment à Determine whether specific book is assigned à (If not) Find a book to read
2.  Go to library
BROWSE
a. Avoid speaking or interacting with librarian or teacher
b. Browse visible books only (displays on tables or featured books)
c. Assess “qualities” of books -- need to be easy to read but not be “babyish”
d. Find books from among this subset on topics that interest
e. Choose book

JENNY
PRACTICAL GOAL: Find books for school; find what’s brand new or forthcoming
PERSONAL GOAL: Spend time with friends; do something that friends think is cool
TASKS:
