Tentative Grading Criteria

  • Class participation (reading assignments): 15%
  • Homework assignments: 45%
    • Assignment 1 5%
    • Assignment 2 10%
    • Assignment 3 10%
    • Assignment 4 10%
    • Assignment 5 10%
  • Project 1: 20%
  • Project 2: 20%
PhD students may, with prior approval from the instructor, choose to undertake a single, semester-long research project (40% of course grade) instead of the two regular projects. A project proposal or interim report will be due on October 19, while the final report will be due on December 12.

Grading Policy

All assignments are due at 2pm on the due date.
Assignments turned in 24 hours before the due date will receive 5% extra credit.
Assignments turned in *up to* 24 hours after the due date will be penalized 20%.
Any assignments turned in after 24 hours will receive no credit.

Discussion with instructors and classmates is encouraged, but each student must turn in individual, original work and cite appropriate sources where appropriate.
