I think I will be working with Stuart Geiger for the midterm project, but wanted to post a few ideas that had been rattling around in my brain in hopes of crystalizing them for myself and possibly providing fodder for other projects over the course of the semester.

  1. Death to Shift Keys:  Modify a standard keyboard to log and respond to different levels of typing force (high vs. low).  When a user presses a key using a "high" level of force, the key capitalizes, thereby eliminating the need for a shift key.  A more sophisticated keyboard could tell the difference between "high" force as applied by an index finger vs. a pinkie finger and could be calibrated to recognize "high" force from "low" force of different typists.
  2. Movie seat reservation system:  It might be weird, but if there were a way to select your seats once you got to the movie theater, that would be good for groups wanting to try to sit together.  Maybe a model miniature of the theater.
  3. I'd love to try a project adapting Toyota's hybrid vehicle technology to something else, but I just visited their website and didn't see any more links or info for doing so.
