Melange
I think I will be working with Stuart Geiger for the midterm project, but wanted to post a few ideas that had been rattling around in my brain in hopes of crystalizing them for myself and possibly providing fodder for other projects over the course of the semester.
- Death to Shift Keys: Modify a standard keyboard to log and respond to different levels of typing force (high vs. low). When a user presses a key using a "high" level of force, the key capitalizes, thereby eliminating the need for a shift key. A more sophisticated keyboard could tell the difference between "high" force as applied by an index finger vs. a pinkie finger and could be calibrated to recognize "high" force from "low" force of different typists.
- Movie seat reservation system: It might be weird, but if there were a way to select your seats once you got to the movie theater, that would be good for groups wanting to try to sit together. Maybe a model miniature of the theater.
- I'd love to try a project adapting Toyota's hybrid vehicle technology to something else, but I just visited their website and didn't see any more links or info for doing so.
