Servo Motor: Actuation Assignment 2

For this assignment I employed the bare minimum to make the servo move. All I did was connect edge of a thin wooden stick with the servo. To my suprise it moved quiet well, but the wire length made it move in a circle. 

In this assignment, I decided to create a crawling ladybug. I decided to use as light elements as possible to make crawling swift and easy. I used just a cardboard and the servo motor to make a light crawler.

Dirk De Wit and I partnered up to create this crawler.
We have combined our servo motors to work together. The sequence goes like this:
1. First motor drives wheels forward
2. Second motor deploys claw  (works best on carpet)
3. First motor returns wheels to initial position
4. Second motor retracts claw (with an added benefit of pulling the contraption forward)

For this homework I wanted to take back and forth motion and turn it into circular motion. The blanket term for this is recipricol motion. So I set out to replicate the motion of something like a steam engine, which has a reciprocating piston and linkages to the wheels. 
As you can see below the result is a little wobbly and I want to spruce it up. I built it mostly with laser cut acrylic and screws. 

Description: The assignment was to famiarise ourselves with the servo motor by attaching it to something and making that object go in a straight line using the servo motor's motion. I used the code that was given to us which allowed me to control the servo motor with the potentiometer. For the moving aspect, my 'robot' was constructed from an eraser 'leg/foot', as I felt the eraser rubber would give it better grip, and from a lightweight small lotion container I found which would prop up the motor itself without weighing the whole thing down.

The goal of the assignment was to explore using the servo motors and to make a crawler.
I partnered up to make a two servo motor design. The original goal was to make a flipper. One servo motor would flip the device 180 degrees. This would place the device in the position for the second servo motor to flip the device again.

Lab
1. Link your servo motor to a PWM pin. Alternate through the 180' limit of a servo motor. 
2. Connect a pot to an analog in pin. Map pot value to angle position of the servo motor. 
3. Moving forward robot. The servo motor was placed on top of a popsicle table construction. An L-shape propeller was attached to a spock of the servo gear on an axis, giving it clearance to move and return without backward motion.
