Sensing Part 2: Force Sensitive Resistors and Photocells

Force readings from the FSR serve two functions:
1. Harder presses result in larger circles rendered on screen
2. Holding a press in the LOW, MID, or HIGH range will change the color as specified:
    Low values (0-80) will set a color weighted heavily with Red. 
   Medium values (81-160) will set a color weighted towards green.
   high values (160+) will set a color weigthed blue.
The current color is always rendered as the most recently drawn ellipse. 

Description:
The fourth lab assignment contains two parts:
a) FSR
In order to put the FSR to use, I attached it to a (kitchen) tong. It now can be used to measure the strength when gripping something with a tong. The FSR was attached to the tong using tape, and is protected by a layer of toilet paper that also serves as a diffusor. (Also see image attached.)
b) Photocells

After exploring two new analog sensors, namely photocells and Force Sensitive Resistors ("FSR"), I used them in combination with processing. It generate GUI object which can be controlled by input through sensors. 

Description
In this lab we used two new analog sensors – photocell and force sensitive resistor. Each of these acts like a variable resistor (similar to pot). The photocell changes resistance with changes in light intensity while the FSR changes resistance due to varying forces. The circuit from the previous lab was utilized except the variable resistor was replaced with a photocell and FSR. These sensors were used to control LED functions.

Lab 4
This lab introduced the concept of serial processing in real time.  It also built upon the idea of potentiometers by introducing new potentiometers such as the Force Sensitive Resistor (FSR) and a photoresistor.
                First the circuit was built as shown in the provided circuit diagram.  This utilized the photoresistor to light a LED.  The same circuit was then used with a FSR to demonstrate the capabilities of both.

Description:
A simple interactive element, the ouput is a smiley face if the user touches the diffuser, if the user presses hard enough the eyes of the widen with happiness!
If the user lets go, the eyes shrink and the face transforms into a sad face

Description
In this lab, we explored two new analog sensors-- photocells ("phots") and Force Sensitive Resistors ("FSRs"). We used these sensors to control a GUI using Processing. 
 
For my homework, I used Processing and Arduino to control a horizontal line and the background color of my display, using an FSR. I placed an orange on my FSR to focus the amount of force applied to the sensor.

Description
 In this week’s lab, we explored two other analog sensors in addition to the pot (explored last lab). The first sensor is a photocell, which measures light brightness. The second one is a force sensitive resistor ("FSR"), which measures force/pressure. All three analog sensors that we have studied thus far (pot, photocell, and FSR)  convert some physical action into an electrical characteristic-namely, resistance.

Description:
The purpose of the lab was to experiment with two additional analog sensors: photo cells that measure the amount of ambient light and touch sensors that measure the amount of physical pressure.
The lab also introduced the Processing language that is able to generate different forms of visual output.
