Thoughtless acts

Assignment: Thoughtless Acts

Thoughtless acts occur all around. I found it most enjoyable to observe behavior around Kohl's Coffee, which has limited seating and therefore invites creative use of the space around it. One group used a newspaper kiosk as an impromptu table for their coffee service. (For those in a similar situation without companions, the newspaper kiosk could be arranged to provide newsreading on its top surface as well as the front.) Another group used milk crates as seats and the building wall as seat backs. (For them, a more creative use of the wall could provide a functional bench.) I observed one person fortunate enough to get a table using her fist as a headrest. (For her, perhaps no design solution is needed—presumably she was at the coffee shop to help stay awake, so more comfort would be counterproductive.)

Due to limitations of storage space on and around my motorcycle, I find myself stashing my gloves wherever they can fit. If I'm riding locally and it's too warm for gloves, I simply sit on them (not pictured) and hope they make it to destination. Once there, my helmet becomes a glove repository. Numerous alternative options could be implemented, including a small holder by the dashboard that would incorporate glove storage, secure phone storage, and space for a RFID tag for toll roads.

Finally, it was worth pointing out the use of windshield for tickets and advertisements. Although such missives typically reach their intended audience, it is alarming how insecure said tickets are—you could be liable for a ticket you never received due to high winds, carelessness on the part of the parking officer, or malice from a passerby. Instead, a secure "inbox" could be used to pass such tickets to the vehicle owner without such exposure.
