Picture 1: Denver parking station with plant and soda can on the top
What's going on here?
Storekeeper is trying to make the pay-station outside her shop a bit more beautiful in Boulder, CO (I think) (flowers). Another individual was drinking their soda and needed to pay at the station, and then forgot they had placed their soda above.
A solution?
A proposed solution would be an integrated/built-in-flowerbed on top of each parking station. To deal with the can, perhaps a small shelf/can holder closer to eye level to better remind parkers, which would blink/beep after a minute or two (or whatever the average time was to pay for parking). Or maybe just adding a simple recycling bin.
Picture 2: Tinfoil on couch
What's going on here?
A friend of mine was using tinfoil on a couch as a "remedy" to prevent her cat from clawing the couch and wrecking it. Besides looking like a couch from the space age, this rendered the couch pretty unusuable.
A solution?
Create/build/buy one of the cat furniture items that are out on the market. The problem is that those can be kind of ugly, take up space, etc. etc. Would be handy to create some sort of couch "shield" that you could pull over the couch like a shade, which would look good but prevent the cat from getting to the couch. But then the problem would be that your furniture is non-functional. Some sort of invisible indoor fence in reverse -- where you could designate areas within the house that would be off-limits to the cat via radio-collar or some similar device.
