Storyboard

storyboard

  1. The snacks are placed in bins, which are placed on weight-sensitive mats. The mats are hooked up to a digital read out, which is in turn hooked up to the mascot and a money collection system.
  2. When the user takes a snack, the mat senses the change in weight, calculates the price, and displays it on the digital read out.
  3. If the user pays the correct amount, the mascot bows in appreciation. If the user pays more than necessary, the mascot goes into a "Yay!" stance. If the user pays less than necessary, the mascot slumps in dejection.
  4. The overall state of the snack system displays in the lounge. User-by-user transactions also display there so there is a sense of accountability for people who do not pay enough.

Mascot poses

The three different mascot poses:

iSnack widget

The widget will display on a screen in the lounge, letting students know exactly how the overall snack system is doing. Since the snack team has decided upon a shareholder type system, the widget also displays how much the "shares" in the snack system are worth.

System diagram

The iSnack system will calculate the price of the snacks from the weight mats, and it will be able to calculate how much money a user puts in. The ensuing balance (positive, 0, or negative) will then be displayed both in the graphical lounge display and with the mascot's poses.
