10% In-class participation and discussion
10% Blog discussions of readings and related topics
60% Assignments
20%
Final write-up

Attendance and readings:

Students are expected to attend the lectures, having read the required materials. I will not recap the readings; rather, we will discuss the topics and issues raised.

Many of the Wednesday class sessions will be of the nature of a Lab. Students will need to attend these Lab sessions to get the hands-on introduction to the tools.

If you will have planned absences, contact me in advance so we try to make accommodations.

Computing access:

Many of the labs sessions, and all of the assignments, will involve software tools that must be installed and configured. You will probably wish to have a personal computer (any of Windows, Mac, or Linux should work, although the availability of tools may vary slightly), of a fairly recent vintage, with rights to install software. If you do not have this access, contact me and we will see what we can do.

Class mailing list:

We'll be using a course mailing list, i290-rmm-sp12@lists.berkeley.edu, to distribute general info and keep you up to date. Please subscribe to this email list if you have not already. Note to I School students: this is a CalMail, and not an I School mailing list, so it is not listed among the I School lists.

Class blog:

Everyone will have post and comment access to the class blog, at: http://blogs.ischool.berkeley.edu/i290-rmm-s12/. Each student will be expected to post at least once on the readings for a given class (or on closely related topics), reacting to the readings, and raising issues and questions for discussion. Everyone should follow the blog and chime in (comment) on one another's posts.
