School of Information Management & Systems Spring 2001.
296a-4 Seminar: Documents in Society.
Niels Windfeld Lund & Michael Buckland.
Why Take This Seminar?
A rounded understanding of Information, Communication and Document
Management has to be based on
a complementary principle drawing upon technical and natural,
scientific traditions as well as on social science traditions
and the humanities.
This seminar provides as opportunity to approach
Document Management at the same time as a physical-practical matter,
as a social issue, and as a mental/intellectual matter.
It will focus on the process of documentation in different
technical, social and cultural settings and on the different
kinds of documents.
The fourth part of the seminar may turn into a workshop, in which
the theoretical issues will be tested by a number of empirical cases,
chosen both by the instructors and by the students.
