"Thoughless Acts" around UC Berkeley Campus

Assignment: Thoughtless Acts

Collaborators:

The card reader at BiD is positioned above waist height; thus, anyone of normal height cannot get in without removing their card (usually in their wallet) from their pocket first (Wes is an exception, he is tall enough to be able to do it without jumping). I have seen a variety of "thoughtless acts" to solve this problem. My favorite is below:

Wallet goes in backpack outer pocket.

Backpack pocket is at the right height to wear it and have the reader read it, or you can hold the whole pack up to the reader.

I ride a bicycle a lot, so I notice the odd clever things that people do with bicycles around campus.

A road sign, two trees, and a water pipe become bicycle racks.

A veritable cornicopia of thoughtless acts. The plastic bag covers a wet seat (bike was outside in the weekend rain), the bicycle lock acts a helmet holder, a second lock is attached to the seat, and the entire bike is chained to a construction sign (not a permanent fixture, but carrying a bike off with a contruction sign attached will probably raise suspicions).
