Charter Assignment – Part 2

Due February 3, 2006

  1. Prepare a charter for the project you will use for this class – hand-in next week. There are several choices of format for your charter and the best choice depends on the type of project you are managing. You reviewed four different versions for your last assignment. Here are few others to look at:

•         Six sigma – I used this template to review Jakarta, Brandeis, etc. in class

•         Microsoft

•         Templates

•         Discussions

•         Gantt Head

•         Templates

•         Discussions

•         Martin/Tate walk through a charter in chapter 2 of Getting Started in Project Management

  1. Prepare an elevator pitch for your project. Typically an elevator pitch is a 35 second presentation that sells you or your product. In this assignment, you need to ‘sell’ your project in order to get sponsorship, resources, or assistance of some kind. The parameters remain similar to any elevator speech – see Microsoft’s ‘5 W’ approach. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/FX100748761033.aspx . The key from a project management perspective is:

•         What’s the benefit & beneficiary of the project?

•         What’s the problem that’s being solved?

•         What is the connection to the person you are speaking to?

  1. If possible, attend presentations on Jan 30 of masters final projects

  2. This is not part of the assignment – but if you want to check out your project, you can try the Charter risk evaluator: http://www.cio.sc.gov/PMDT/Project_Charter_Risk_Evaluator.htm
