Buckland, M.   Library Services in Theory and Context. 2nd ed. Pergamon Press, 1988. This book is assigned to provide a general conceptual framework. It is out of print and so not available in bookstores. The entire text is available on the Library's website:
Chapters 1-6, 8-14, 16, 19 & 20 are little changed from the 1st edition, 1983.

Rubin, Richard. Foundations of Library and Information Science. 1999. GRADUATE SERVICES RESERVE MAIN Z665.2.U6.R83. A rather discoursive account of contemporary library issues with some emphasis on policy issues. Examine by March 10.
