Outfit Forecaster

 

My final project proposal is the creation of a need-driven design. In general, people check the forecast in order to determine how to dress weather-appropriately for the day. My idea is to bring that process of choosing weather-appropriate clothes to where your clothes are stored--hanging in the closet. 

 

I propose to create clothes hangers that light up according to what's appropriate for the weather that day. Each hanger will have leds across the top as well as a button/switch where the user can configure what type of weather that article of clothing is good for. All the hangers are connected to a central computing device that will retrieve weather information online and do the computation to determine which hangers should be lit. The user will also be able to configure the temperatures that correlate to cold/cool/warm weather clothes, as different people have different preferences. Some may want a jacket when it is 68 degrees, some may not. 

 

The user can manually turn on the device in the morning, or set a timer so it is up and running for when they wake up. I hope to also incorporate a visual display of the day's weather, whether it is just a number display of the temperature, or a visual display of sun/clouds/rain. 

 

My hope is to create a project that allows people to get informed of the day's weather while doing something as simple as choosing an outfit for the day. I hope it makes some peoples' lives easier and helps people who tend to forget the correlation between the temperature and what they typically wear for that temperature.
