DC Motor: Actuation Assignment 1

Description:
Used a DC motor to experiment with motion as output. It was difficult to find something that would attach to the spinning part of the motor without flying off. I finally found a mini clothespin that could pretty much only hold a piece of paper. I took an old paper snowflake from our winter decorations and decided to give it motion and make it spin! video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRoU5RxBTEc

For this project I used the DC motor to create art by spinning a piece of paper around and touching a Sharpie to it, creating neat patterns. Check out the vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnxWYa-sN70

  • Components used

red and blue LEDs, diffuser made out of tissue, paper fan with DC motor, potentiometer, Arduino board, transistor, diode, resistors and so on.

  •  Description

Fan controlled by the potentiometer cools down the object: it shows the temperature of it - when the fan is off, the object is hot (red) and as fan goes faster and faster, the object is cooled down and becomes more blue.

Description:

The motor's ability to spin and rotate things made me  think of phenakistoscopes. For this lab, I used this waltzing disc made by Eadweard J. Muybridge. I also used the code from last week to play the Blue Danube Waltz. The output of this lab is an animated image and song.
