1) What is happening in the scene?
- a) An individual comfortably hugs a pillow as he's taking a nap
- b) Two people "cuddle" or "spoon"
Napping is generally a very comfortable experience that most people are well-acquainted with. It is common that, during nap time, people embrace a pillow (or another person) in order to be more comfrotable. Perhaps reminiscent of our infancy and maternal attachement, or perhaps entirely unrelated, the fact is that squeezable inanimate (or animate) objects make our napping experience more pleasurable.
2) Possible physical and/or virtual design solution(s)
The act of napping, and cuddling/hugging while at it, directly relates to our project: the SqueeZzz. Not everyone has someone to comfortably cuddle with while napping, and some people enjoy hugging pillows yet might not be as inclined to cuddle with other individuals. For these target users we have designed SqueeZzz, a "smart" body pillow that will enhance the napping experience. SqueeZzz can sense wether you want a tighter embrace by the amount of surface area contact with the pillow, and communicate to the bed such that it creates a more encasing environment. Conversely, if the embrace is loosened (perhaps because temperature is getting to high or the user feels like expanding on the bed), SqueeZzz can sense this action and communciate with the bed such that it returns to a more ample environment.
These solutions are both physical (input embrace and output encasing) and virtual (communication between SqueeZzz and bed).
