Picture One
Woman shading herself from the sun using whatever is at her disposal. In this case she has chosen an empty paper bag. This likely works well for her because it is lightweight and therefore easy to hold up over a long period of time.
It is a natural reaction for people to shade their eyes from bright sunshine. They do this for comfort, and to improve their vision in such conditions. In this particular scenario the woman was also looking at her handheld device, which may have been very difficult to see otherwise.
In terms of a physical solution to this problem, I think they have already been invented and are called Sunglasses.
Picture Two
At the park or during playtime in general, it is natural for parents to give some assistance to their kids, to increase their enjoyment. In this case we see a woman (likely a mother, but maybe an aunt or babysitter) giving a child a push while he is swinging, to help him go higher, faster and therefore have more fun. Clearly the higher you go on a swing the more fun you have.
If I may, I'd like to extrapolate this metaphor of "giving a push" to other activities, not just swinging. Related to our midterm project, the Ladybug system will allow parents to give their kids scavenger hunts to go on, and will likely result in those children being given hints along the way to "push them in the right direction". Okay that connection may be a bit of a stretch, but the point I would like to highlight is that the Ladybug system will encourage parent-child interactions in outdoor settings, like the park.
