In this thoughtless act we see a rock climbing friend's gear closet (with some items on hangars removed for clarity of the interesting bit). In this case, he wants to keep items nicely sorted for organization, and achieves this by hanging a backpack and climbing harness - nontraditional items for a closet - using carabiners. The space was also shared with traditional hangars that hold outdoor wear. There's interesting design opportunities here for sorting; after a couple of questions, it's clear that even the contents of the backpack are haphazardly stored, and preparation for a climbing trip involves spreading the contents onto the floor and deciding what items will be necessary. Some of the items, active camming devices and wedge-shaped stoppers, are very size-dependent and their use varies widely on individual climbs; quickly identifying the necessary sizes is often done by reconciling the color of the object with the size that matches that color. Fast sorting, as by a pressure-sensitive tile, could certainly help with this.
