Objective
Our main objective involves integrating children’s education with the world they experience while making it fun and enjoyable. We want to be able to engage children and encourage learning by bringing them outdoors and creating curiosity about the world around them. The aim is to achieve this through exploration and travel, and creating a communication bridge between parent and child. This will allow parents to build stories with their children, and create deeper and more emotional connections.
Proposal
We would like to create a discovery camera for children of all ages that gives feedback, supports activities and applications. The child will take the camera wherever they go. Travelling with their family, road trips, to the park, etc. and learn about their surroundings. It will encourage exploration, independence, discovery and self-education.
The primary function: The child will take a picture with their camera of a tree, animal, shape and the camera will tell them about that object. What is it? What color is it? How do you spell the name of that object? etc. There will be a headphone jack and a screen that will educate them about their surroundings. The camera will know the child’s age and give information according to the child’s learning capabilities.
The camera will also have applications that can be pre programmed by parents or institutions that will support scavenger hunts and other challenges so the child can learn on-the-go. Others can share their applications in the future.
Look and feel
The device will be small enough to hold and operate with two small hands. On the front will be a serial camera used to capture color and images of the environment. On the rear will be an OLED display used to give feedback about pictures taken. Interface ports to the device include a USB port and 3.5mm headphone jack. Audio speakers will be included as well.
A “kid-safe”, durable material will be used for the device enclosure.
