Our interface scenarios were significantly revised after the LO-FI interviews and the metadata discussion meetings we had with the UCWISE researchers. In order to design feasible metadata tagging interfaces given the limited time we have, and to satisfy the demands of the UCWISE researcher, we prioritized and refined the metadata tagging tasks some more. Scenario one is developed to capture a very specific metadata tagging tool usage on replacing metadata templates. In the process of presenting our metadata tagging tools to the UCWISE researchers, we also discovered that they are still in the process of making agreements on all the curriculum metadata terms and organizing them into meaningful categories. This dramatically affects our design. For example, the current list of metadata for instructor notes turns out to be a lot shorter than when it was first presented to us. So we had to revise the scenario for tagging curriculum content with instructor notes. After our second round of LO-FI interviews, we discovered that it is most important for the primary user of the metadata tagging tool to tag curriculum with cognitive learning metadata. (Note that the cognitive learning metadata is a new category of metadata that was presented to us by the UCWISE researcher during our recent meeting with them.) This is why we created a new scenario (scenario three) for tagging a curriculum activity with cognitive learning metadata.
You are in the process of creating a quiz activity, and you want to tag it with some basic metadata. You noticed the current form for adding the bookkeeping metadata does not contain all the metadata that you want to enter. For example, you want to enter a description for the quiz, and there is not a description metadata on the current form.
Task 1: Check the metadata template page to find an alternative metadata template that contains the metadata description.
Task 2: Select the Generic CS3 Quiz template, and set this as the default bookkeeping metadata template for your quiz activity.
Task 3: Using the new bookkeeping form to enter the descriptions for this quiz, and save this metadata.
You want to attach a note to a given quiz to indicate to your TA that the quiz needs to be edited so it is more suitable for international students.
Task 1: You found out that the Instructor Notes stage of the metadata tagging lets you add such a note.
Task 2: You selected the “Need to Edit” feature
Task 3: You entered the notes on the need to make the quiz international student friendly.
You want to attach the fact that the quiz activity that you have just authored contains a type of cognitive learning activity titled modification. Specifically, you want to indicate the quiz tests students on their ability to determine which section of a given code needs to be modified given a problem.
Task 1: You selected the cognitive learning activity stage on the progress bar.
Task 2: You selected the cognitive learning metadata modification.
Task 3: You tagged the quiz with a subcategory under the modification metadata titled Indicate what to modify and saved the tagging.
