Ourselves:
Florance Gee - 2nd year SIMS student
Ran Li - 2nd year SIMS student
Nettie Ng - 2nd year SIMS student
Welcome to our user interface testing session for IS 213. The goal of this session is to test on the usability of our proposed web system, Healthy Communities. The Healthy Communities System will serve as a tool that tracks community health issues, promotes sharing of community information and best practices, and helps people get involved in making community decisions. You, an evaluator, are here to help us identify possible design or procedural issues that might arise while using the system. In this session, you will be asked to use a paper version of the system to achieve three goals. To closely illustrate a pure computer-human interaction process, we will not provide you with any assistance but will be available if such assistance is absolutely necessary for you to proceed to the next task. The whole interactive process will be observed and recorded on paper to allow us to analyze and evaluate the system. Our goal is to evaluate the system, and not on you, so if you encounter difficulties using the system during the session, all it reflects is a design problem of the system.
Sign Informed Consent Forms
Please sign an informed consent form before we start our study. You are free to change your mind about doing the study or quit at any time. We will take photographs of your interaction with our paper computer system during testing. Please also sign a records release consent form so that we can use these photographs in our project. All the testing results will be kept confidential and will only be used for evaluation purposes.
Ran will act as the “paper computer”, and will show the screen shots of the system during the test. When you click on a link, the appropriate screen shot will come up. Please speak aloud on whether you want to click on a link, go back, or type in something, and the “paper” computer will respond accordingly. Nettie will be taking notes during the test and I (Florance) will continue be the facilitator.
You will be given three goals to achieve on the Healthy Communities Paper System. Each goal will be written on paper and the objective is for you to perform tasks to achieve each goal separately. You can take as much time to achieve each goal as needed. You will start on the homepage of the system. We encourage you to speak aloud on your thought process as we observe. Are you ready?
