Comparative Analysis - CalAgenda

[back to Assignment 3]

CalAgenda is more of a personal calendaring system than a public event calendar system.

  • Positives:
    • Fairly robust repeating event model
    • Pop-up calendar that allows user to select a date to view
    • "Create" and "Cancel" buttons at top and bottom of screens
    • It supports email notifications and reminders, but doesn’t appear to be able to store email addresses or mailing lists
    • It allows the user to schedule events while seeing other people’s free/busy time. Could this be helpful in an event calendar as well for users who want to make sure there are no events scheduled at the same time as the event they are entering?
  • Negatives:
    • Cannot publish this calendar to the web.
    • There are too many tabs on new event entry form.
    • It’s difficult to tell what many of the icons are without mousing over them. Who would have known that the little calendar between the arrows in the Daily and Monthly View brings up a pop-up that allows the user to select a date to view?
    • Although it claims to have a "printer-friendly" format, it cuts off the edge of the calendar.
