How to run the Prototype

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

The SIMians Course Comment Forum (CoCoFo) opens with an introduction page. The sections along the top and left of the page are constant elements that will always be there to help you navigate the system. The center section contains the changing information.

This prototype was designed to support three different scenarios.

  1. You are a SIMS student getting ready to sign up for your second semester classes. You are thinking about taking a networking class and want to look at the course reviews for IS 250.
  2. You are a SIMS student getting ready to sign up for your second semester classes. You are thinking about taking a user interface design class and want to look at the course reviews for IS 213.
  3. You are a SIMS student who has just finished taking IS 250. You really enjoyed the class and want to write a comment so future students can read it. You liked the course, thought the professor was excellent, and thought the coursework was challenging but worth it.

We encourage you to use different mechanisms to find the requested information (i.e. search, browse, etc).

A few notes about the system:

  • The system works best on Netscape Navigator.
  • When you log in, you can use any user name and password combination. Because the system is not secure, it is best if you do not use your SIMS user name and actual password.
  • Once you are logged in, try not to use the back button. It may place you in a semi-logged in state, with some of the screens thinking you are logged in and others thinking you are logged out.
  • When you are finished using the system, please log out. Otherwise the system will think the next user is already logged in.
  • The search mechanism does not support unlimited searches; rather, we have seeded it with a few preformatted search results based on the defined scenarios. Search terms that work at the moment are: "network," "internet," "user," and "usability."

For additional details, refer to Limitations of the Prototype.

Thank you for testing our system.
