Reading Response 2 (due 3/18)

Due Date: Thursday, Mar 18

DELIVERABLES:

Write a reading response paper - around 2 pages, doublespaced - which includes a discussion or reaction to topics from one or more of the readings from February 11th (L8) through March 18th (L18).

The paper can be many things, including (but not limited to): exploring the issues that are most interesting to you in some detail; relating the current readings to other material within or outside of this course including a news story, your own experience or other things you have read; critiquing readings carefully, etc.  It is pretty wide open but it needs to relate back to one or more readings from the lectures 8-18.  As past students have consistently demonstrated, you get out what you put into these papers.

A few guidelines:

  • State the focus/point of your paper upfront and provide support through ties back to specific readings
  • When you pull from readings, make sure to cite appropriately: (Ryan, 230). Even if you are just paraphrasing, you need to give proper attribution.
  • Avoid many direct quotes - we want to get your thoughts and opinions, not just a copy and paste of the authors'.
  • Be clear and concise - we want you to stick to the 2 page limit as much as possible.  We are not grading on quantity, just quality.

Bring TWO printed, stapled copies of your report to class on February 9th.

As with the last one, these will be graded on a check, check-plus, and check-minus scale (A, A+, B+).

HIGHLY ENCOURAGED and optional:

Post your thoughts/ideas on the course website in some capacity. For example, you could write a short summary on the blog and/or attach your paper.  It is totally up to you if/how you want to post it*, the main point is that you can share it with the rest of the class if you want.

And as with the last one, definitely check out what your classmates are posting. Some really deep insight and new angles always come out of these reading responses and we hope sharing them will trigger some great discussions that we could not get to in our short class meeting times.

*NOTE:  We are using the same controlled vocabulary as you did in 202 - so please tag your resource with the appropriate lecture tag: "L1", "L2", etc.  There are no reading tags, so just tag it with the lecture tag appropriate for the reading(s).
