SportML is a simple ontology for publishing data about competitive sports events. Data about the structure of sports tournaments as a series of events, agents competing in a competition, the award associated with the competition and on how the awards received is published.
This article illustrates the relationships between the key classes in the ontology as applied to the olympic cycling. The Vocabulary is also available and divided into classes, properties and individuals.
Below is an example of the relationships from the Olympics 2012 Track Cycling mentioned in article:
1) CYCLING is a sub discipline of TRACK CYCLING which is a discipline of MEN's SPRINT
2) 2012 OLYMPICS has a MEN'S SPRINT division
3) MEN'S SPRINT award is the MEN'S SPRINT GOLD MEDAL
4) MEN'S SPRINT GOLD MEDAL was awarded to CHRIS HOY (AGENT)
This article relates to Chapter 5 (and to the other lectures) because its about an example of an ontology in use by bbc sports. As noted above, there is an association among several resources that is significant. The events and agents in a sporting event are organized for the sports managers, players, fans, and the media. The technologies used for the ontology in the article are RDF and OWL.
