The reading on the Japanese Farms gave us an insight of how cloud based services offered by Fujitsu Ltd. addresses the specific needs of Farmers
in Japan. Two recent articles on The New York Times and Forbes discuss about
similar cloud based farm management services offered by three startup firms FarmLogs,
Farmeron and Solum.
FarmLogs focuses on providing solutions to farmers to better
organize the data on their farms. The app collects various details about the
farming activities and provides a comprehensive report that will help farmers
review the activities done in the fields. Using the farm’s address the app maps
fields and records weather during various farming activities.
Farmeron provides similar services as FarmLogs, but their
focus is on livestock management. A web based application; Farmeron helps
farmers manage their animals by keeping track of their feeding habits, performance of an
individual animal and the performance of the whole farm.
Solum goes a step further by helping farmers in decision
making. They collect soil samples from farms, analyze them and provide reports
to farmers that will help them determine the nutrient content of soil, the type and quantity fertilizers to be used and follow other effective farming practices.
