Ever wondered what is causing your 2 year old kid/niece/nephew
to behave in a particular way during a day/night? Why did she start to cry last
night? Well, there is now an app that can deduce that for you. Monica Rogati
and her husband have created an app called as the Baby I/O. This app can
capture information that indicates the baby’s activities throughout the day and
uses that data to analyze various things.

Various information like the feeding(input), diaper(output),
sleep etc. are registered by the app and then this accumulates to around 300
data points in a month on average. This app doesn’t just stop with gathering
information. This information is organized and stored in such a way that this
data can be analyzed and charted and shed light on patterns in how the behavior
of the child is related to the various activities like sleep and feeding.

As per the article, analysis was done with the sleeping
patterns and feeding charts to determine the cause of a random night walk done
by the child. Was it due to an afternoon nap or was it due to some irregular
diet that day? The analysis was able to pin point the cause. With such
features, this app has now been integrated with Belkin’s baby monitoring
hardware to send reports and analysis over wireless connection about the baby’s
activities.

As per Rogati, the real goal of this app is to do big data
crunching like what she does during her day job at linked in – finding correlations
between first names and career growth (?). With the amount of data collected
every day and this combined with crowd sourced data from all such apps, can
help in bringing out many important facts that can help reduce parental anxiety
and stress. Parenting is a tough job and geeky parents can rely on this app to
help them out.
