Using story-grammar instruction and picture books to increase reading comprehension.

This article describes a study conducted with 26 first grade students (6 with disabilities) to determine if using story grammar would increase their reading comprehension. Not surprisingly, conveying the same information using story grammar rather than just a reading lesson helped all the students, both with and without disabilities, derive meaning from the entire story instead of just focusing on a few minor details of the lesson.
