Conditionals can take the place of templates.

But then your stylesheets are less flexible.

Conditionals exclude overriding:

• When importing templates, they can't be overriden.

• Other templates have to duplicate the same work.

• When the document structure changes, they will typically fail.

But they are nice for when you don't want the context, variables, and parameters to change.
