Simple Mechanics: Cuckoo Clock

Cuckoo Castle

Submitted by fchasen on Wed, 04/03/2013 - 10:30

Description

We wanted our clock to have the element of fear and surprise.

The crank winds the drawbridge down, but instead of the dragon being present behind the draw bridge, it pops up out of the roof of the castle.

We used a linkage and pulleys to translate the rotational motion of the crank to make the dragon pop up.

Drawer-Pop Cuckoo Clock

Submitted by stlim on Tue, 04/02/2013 - 22:39

Description

This cuckoo clock is operated by one servo motor. Drawer-like door opens as the bird pops up and makes sound to signal the time.

The servo motor makes the drawer move forward (open) and lifts the bird. Its partial rotation is conveyed to the two parts through wires. A wheel translates it into another rotational movement to pop up the bird. A pipe translates it into linear motion of the drawer.

Components Used

- 1 arduino uno board

- 1 potentiometer

- 1 servo motor

A beatiful Dinosaur clock, Angry Birds inside

Submitted by euiyoungkim on Tue, 04/02/2013 - 21:49

Description

: A beautiful & sleek design "Dinosaur clock", Angry bird pops out while the mouth is opened. The structures are made of pieces of white foam boards and wood sticks. Angry Bird and the upper jaw are connected in one mechanism, so they move together at a time. Our team tried to make it as simple as possible to prevent the over usage of materials.

Birdlesque

Submitted by syh on Tue, 04/02/2013 - 15:42

Description:
A very pretty bird peeps out on her stage when the curtains open. As the photocell in her hat senses that she is in the light, the LEDs in her bikini top turn on to attract attention, and she sings "La Vie en Rose." Her stage is propped up with wood and can be controlled using a servo motor.
