Sixth Sense

Submitted by zwasson on Fri, 03/01/2013 - 19:39

Description

Our project, titled Sixth Sense, is based around an anklet shown in the figure below. This anklet features a variety of sensors, including an accelerometer, a gyroscope, and a magnometer, along with vibration motors and Bluetooth 4.0. The sensors allow the use of foot gestures to interact with the device, Bluetooth 4.0 allows the use of GPS via a connection to a smart phone, and the vibration motors allow the device to provide tactile feedback to the user. We have come up with three potential applications in mind for Sixth Sense.

Illuminating Shadows

Submitted by jmscott212 on Fri, 03/01/2013 - 15:13

Midterm Sketch: Illuminating Shadows

In our project we are working with the notion of ‘shadows of light’ in an attempt to simulate the experience of walking through dark/scary spaces more pleasurable.

When a person approaches the area of the installation a shadow of light slowly emerges on the ground and on a wall near close to them. The user can interact with the shadows in the way that the shadow responds to the user’s gestures.
