Livescribe 'Smartpen': Digitizing Notes

The Livescribe pen is a sort of mash up between the traditional means of taking notes and creating a digital, data rich record of your notes. At the tip of the pen a camera records your writing on special paper covered in small dots that are disrupted by the marks made by the refillable ballpoint ink. The pen can then be plugged into your computer and you have a clean, instant copy of your handwritten notes in pdf form. This alone is an incredible feat when compared to the alternative of making scans of your notes or trying to use the still imperfect touchscreen/tablet technology. The Livescribe pen however has the added bonus of also recording the audio of the lecture you are taking notes on which syncs with the notes you write. You can press play and tap the pen to the paper on any section of your notes to hear the lecture from the pen or you can do the same with the uploaded notes on your computer.
