A1. 202 in the News

Assigned:
August 29, 2011
Due:
September 12, 2011 - 09:00

In the first lecture we did a very broad survey of different types of organizing systems so you could see how pervasive they are in the world around us.  Your first assignment will to be find a news story or short article that relates to the kinds of issues in our first readings.

Instructions:

1) Find a "202 in the News" story published since January 1, 2010.

2) Summarize the article and document its "202-ness" in a brief blog post. Write at least two paragraphs and no more than four that contextualize the story—that is, why is this “202 in the News”? See if you can answer the five questions about organizing systems in Chapter 1 of Glushko’s “The Discipline of Organizing”. No need to list questions and answers explicitly,  just keep them in mind as you write.

For more information on how to create a blog entry, visit the How To section. We've also posted some of our favorite examples from last year's assignment.

3) Determine which lecture(s) your story best fits under and label it with the most appropriate lecture tag(s)—"L1", "L2", etc.  Some may fit under several lectures, so make sure to review the entire list.  See the syllabus for a full list of lectures and readings.

4) Also include at least four other tags that describe your post’s content, keeping in mind that this is a useful way to find blog posts to reference later on.

5) Tag your post with "A1" to submit it. You do NOT need to create a new "Assignment Submission".

Note: Your grade for this assignment will be included in your participation grade.
