The EPA challenges America to Build Environmental Apps Using EPA Data

The recent reading and discussion about e-government piqued my curiosity about current initiatives. According to a 24August2011 blog post from Mashable.com, the EPA has put forth a challenge to the public to build apps that use environmental data collected by the EPA and other government agencies that address one or more of the following categories:

  • Taking Action on Climate Change
  • Improving Air Quality
  • Assuring the Safety of Chemicals
  • Cleaning Up Our Communities
  • Protecting America’s Waters
  • Expanding the Conversation on Environmentalism and Working for Environmental Justice
  • Building Strong State and Tribal Partnerships

The EPA website has a list of apps that have already been built (http://www.epa.gov/developer/existingapps.html) as well as 96 current ideas for apps that could be built: http://www.epa.gov/developer/ideasforapps.html and datasets (http://www.epa.gov/developer/datasets.html). Project ideas anyone?
