Google Strikes Deal With French Publisher

We were talking in class recently about Google's book scanning efforts in France.  Here is an article on the matter.

French publisher Hachette Livre will let Google scan thousands of its out of print books and sell them as e-books or in other electronic formats.  However, Hachette which limit which books Google can scan and Hatchette will set the sales prices.  Both companies will split the profits from Google's sales.  Hatchette's deal was non-exclusive so they would be able to make a deal with other scanning companies.  They also retained their right to sue Google over past activities.

This deal was not popular in France where Google is already fighting multiple lawsuits over digitizing out of print books.
