Infosys 101:
Information Systems. M. Buckland. Spring 1997.
Exercise 8: Content of Personal Home-pages. Due March 18.
This exercise examines content rather than
searching skills.
As an example we will examine the new practice of mounting personal
home-pages on the World Wide Web.
Part 1:
What information do you think that a Berkeley professor's
home-page should contain? Make a list
before you continue to part 2.
Part 2:
Berkeley professors' home-pages can be found from
http://www-resources.berkeley.edu/nhpteaching/
Examine some Berkeley professors' home-pages (other
than Professor Buckland's).
Evaluate the home-pages that you you look at with respect to what they contain.
Is the range of content suitable? What about the quantity of content,
quality of content, and presentation?
Identify two examples, give the professor's name, cite the
location (address, URL) of the home-page, and note the exact date
and time you looked.
Write down your evaluative comments.
Part 3: What would you now add to your list in Part 1?
Part 4: [OPTIONAL] Can you find any interesting
personal home-pages elsewhere on the WWW?
If so, please give the location (address, URL) and add your comments on why you
consider it an interesting or worthwhile example.
